I believe the owner of this blog should remove such a horrific picture from this site. The Rangers sweep over Atlanta was a fluke - a bad team beating an overrated weak team. Let the Devils take another shot at the Rangers. I'd love to sweep the pathetic blueshirts again.
Seriously? Are you ready to name four players on this team other than Jagr and your goalie?
Such an obvious attempt to irk me will not go unpunished. Ten years between series wins and all of a sudden you are a Ranger fan again. Welcome back to hockey.
So much for my attempts at simple photo-journalism, which is all this is. But now I know what it feels like to have an editor change my headline, Bones. Thanks, asshole.
Seriously, we have to go through this "Name the Rangers" again? I purposely did not write anything about the sweep here, lest I fear the wrath of "Devils Fan 24/7/365, Mets Fan whenever" Bones - is there no sense of hypocrisy in you whenever you go down this road with me?
So me being "Yankees Fan 24/7/365, Rangers Fan whenever" Perl, are you really asking me to name the players again? I don't ask you to name the Mets starting rotation.
I'll simply tell you that I can do it (Yes, without looking at the web or newspaper), as I've been watching as much as I can of the last month of the regular season and the playoffs - that is, as much I can between changing diapers, running baths, reading bedtime stories, etc.
And don't get me wrong, three kids affects my Yankee-watching ability as well - I am consistently missing the first 2-3 innings every night it seems.
And you'll find out one day how hard it is to watch every inning, slapshot, 3rd down, and slam dunk for 365 days a year, and still have a family that remembers your name.
And as far as changing the headline, I guess it's your blog and you can do whatever you want since I'm merely a guest here, but come on.
Or maybe I should be thankful that you didn't remove the post altogther.
("Or maybe I should be thankful that you didn't remove the post.")
At least Birdman actually responsed rationally to an emotionally-charged topic for once - that's the kind of trash talk we should expect here. Not some kind of blog quasi-censorship.
Your unrighteous indignation is quite remarkable, T. As you are a welcome guest here at Rolling Bones, I wonder what you will teach your growing brood about proper etiquette? Is it OK to enter a Jewish man's home and hang a swastika?
Obviously, I'm exaggerating for comedic effect. And by vandalizing your clearly intended-to-provoke headline, I'm behaving in an equally childish manner. But you started it! Nonny-nonny poo-poo.
As far as your perpetually mistaken characterizations of my fandom, allow me to once again correct the record.
I am a Jets fan, first and foremost. I will miss a Jets game only for surgery, funerals, jobs in Thailand and other freak plans that leave me without access to a local television or a satellite dish.
I am a Devils fan, proud to support a team that has been the most consistent force in the league for the time during which "your" team has floundered under the weight of heartless, high-priced, mismatched talent and one of the worst owners in sports (go Isiah!)
And I am a fair-weather Mets fan who enjoys the occasional game, but basically hates the Yankees more than I even like the sport of baseball.
The NBA sucks donkey balls.
You pretend otherwise when it comes to your precious Rangers, who will almost certainly fall short of glory this year. 1994 was a long time ago. I think Alf was still on TV.
Not sure I understand how I "pretend otherwise" with the Rangers. Ever since I started watching sports, I have ONLY rooted for (in no particular order)the Yankees, Giants, Rangers, and Knicks. Period. Not sure how that differs from the fandom you described.
If "pretending" means having only a moderate interest in the daily stats of a team with "high-priced, mismatched talent and one of the worst owners in sports" (all of which are absolutely true - no argument here), especially when they don't even sniff the playoffs during that span, than fine - call me whatever you want.
But that should not in any way diminish the legitimacy of my enthusiam for MY team as they continue to rebound these past two seasons under a better talent mix and better leadership (the ownership still sucks, though). Yes, 1994 was a long time ago - too long. It's about fucking time for the Rangers to start playing that kind of hockey again. And while a cup in 2007 is still a longshot, it's much less so than it was in 2006, and it makes 2008 look even more promising.
In my view, pretending would be NOT rooting for the team to get better, or worse - rooting for a different team, neither of which ever happened.
And when you invited me to join, you can't pretend you didn't know my sports allegiances, or the likelihood that they would make their way into a few posts when appropriate.
But if your wish is to keep all Yanks/Giants/Rangers/Knicks-related material off "Rolling Bones", I will submit to those wishes, even though I think it makes for a less interesting blog (e.g., look at this lovely debate we're having).
OK. I swear to never disparage the legitimacy of your precious enthusiasm.
I will, however, disparage the flimsy grounds for your enthusiasm. Win one playoff series in 10 years against the Thrashers, and every Ranger fan starts masturbating to their Messier wall posters again.
There's lots of hockey left to play this year. And the New York teams will be watching most of it from the golf course.
Devils / Rangers: Rangers = got lucky in 1st round but not going anywhere. Devils = the OT victory could vault them to great things this playoff season.
Nets / Knicks: Knicks = one of the true embarrassments in sports and Isiah is an A-hole. Nets = been one of the great organizations the past 7 years.
Mets / Yankees: Yankees = suck. They try to buy championships with a $200M salary. Mets = underdogs and are a class act compared to their cross town rivals.
Jets / Giants: Giants = Overrated team with a sissy as their QB and a jerk on D (Strahan) who was given a gift to hold the record for most sacks in a season. A total joke. Jets = A team on the rise with a good young coaching staff and some young studly players. A championship drought will hopefully be broken within 3 years.

What was the original headline?!
Blueshirts Rock On!
(Bones' revision doesn't even make sense)
