By The Dawn's Early Blight

A Woodbridge woman flies the Puerto Rican flag on her lawn, mostly to spite her neighbors. What a country! (Spoken in Yakov Smirnoff accent.)

Your article happens to be very timely in light of the fact that a bill banning the burning of the American flag missed passing in the Senate by just one vote.

I really don't understand why people get so emotional about the whole flag issue. Yeah, many have died defending that flag. But they're not fighting to defend a piece of cloth, they're fighting to defend the ideals that it represents - freedom of expression being one of the most important of those ideals.

So just as those people have a right to be offended by a Puerto Rican flag, the woman in your article has the same right to do the offending in the first place.

And if she wanted to also burn the American flag, why the fuck not? Not the most patriotic way to voice your protest, perhaps, but same concept as above.

If they pass a law banning flag-burning, does that mean that it's OK to take a shit on the flag instead? Until they pass a law banning flag-shitting, I guess.

Wake me up when they finally pass enough flag-desecration laws so that's it's specifically illegal to: 1)jerk-off all over the flag, then 2)eat the cum-covered flag, then 3)shit the flag out your asshole into a bucket of piss.

I'll be the one holding the bucket, at least.

Now that's the kind of spirited (and heedlessly graphic) debate this blog is all about!

The argument is best summarized in this link from a blog post from last year:
